Orthodontic Problems & Solutions
You may be able to solve many braces problems temporarily by yourself until you
schedule a repair appointment with our office. The technicians are on call if you
have an emergency on the weekend, but the following are problems that you can fix
yourself at home until you can call the office on Monday morning to schedule an
appointment.

Loose Band or Bracket
|
If the band or bracket is attached to the wire, leave it in place. If uncomfortable,
place wax on it. If it comes out completely, wrap band or bracket in tissue.

Loose Wire
|
Try to place the wire back in with tweezers. If that is not possible, clip the wire
with fingernail clippers behind last tooth to which it is securely fastened. If
any discomfort, place wax on it.

|
Poking Wire
|
Try to push sticking wire down with a spoon or eraser. If not possible, place wax
on it.
|
|
Loose Appliance
|
If appliance is sticking or poking place wax on it.
|
|
Spacer is Out
|
This is not an emergency. Call the office to make an appointment.
|
|
Retainer or Headgear Does Not Fit
|
This is not an emergency. Call the office to make an appointment to have it adjusted.
|
|
Lip Bumper comes Out
|
Put it back in tubes on bands, if comes out again call the office.
|
|
Soreness From Elastic Wear
|
Take Tylenol © or Ibuprofen and continue wearing them.
|
|
Problems Turning Expander (Seems to be stuck, or extreme discomfort)
|
Stop turning and call the office to schedule an appointment.
